Welcome - 2009
Dear Parents
The staff and I extend a very warm welcome to students and parents returning this year. A special welcome to new families who are joining the ANI school community for the first time. We are sure you will enjoy your association with our school and benefit from the wide variety of of academic, cultural and sporting opportunities we have to offer.
Our school has an excellent reputation for not only academic excellence, but also for high levels of sporting achievement and cultural success.
Last year an independent educational consultant analyzed our levels of performance against National benchmarks. The standard achieved by both year groups is in excess of National performance. This high standard has been maintained for some years.
In sport, we are the Auckland squash and basketball champs, the Central Zone champs in badminton, cricket and table tennis.
Our orchestra, band, choir and cultural groups are the envy of many local schools.
We are proud of our school, proud of our achievements and proud of what we have to offer.
The staff and I look forward to another challenging, exciting and fun filled year with you all. We hope to get to know each and everyone of you as the year progresses.
Kind regards,
Jill Larson

PTA Mufti – Week 10, 29 June to 3 July
Very soon we will be using our flash new library. In preparation for the move, our fantastic
Information Centre Manager has sorted through our books, looking for the ratty tatties and the much
loved books. She has identified many books that need replacing and also other items that will make
our new library complete for the students use in their updated surroundings.

Dear Parents
Reference: Influenza A (H1N1) Swine Flu
Swine Flu – now more commonly referred to as H1N1 is now becoming quite an issue for schools given the increase in cases through community transmission.
We hope to contain the spread of this type of influenza by asking parents who are travelling overseas now or in the holidays to keep students home for three days upon
your return REGARDLESS IF THEY HAVE SYMPTOMS OR NOT. That way we can be sure that by the time your child comes back to class there would be no symptoms
evident.
If during the three days at home your child does develop flu like symptoms please call the Ministry of Health Healthline 0800 611 116.
In case the school does have to close we have put the following pandemic planning in place:
- We will email you if you are on our newsletter email list (note: we have saved this database to a number of flash drives should our internet be down!)
- We will text you if you receive the school newsletter by hardcopy
- Teachers are now preparing a “stay home pack” for students with up to date and relevant work for one week
- Our website will have links for each class with additional work, resources and support material
- Teachers will be at school during this time and can be emailed if you have questions (ani@ak-normal.school.nz)
- We suggest you visit the local library and stock up on some good novels
In the meantime we are emphasising healthy hygiene by:
- Stay at home and away from others if you are sick
- Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue
- Put used tissues into a rubbish bin
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth – germs spread that way
- Wash your hands often with soap and dry them thoroughly – hand hygiene is critical
- Keep surfaces clean at home, school and work
Thank you again for your support in trying to keep ANI a healthy workplace.
Please also check our website (www.ak-normal-intermediate.com) under the‘Parent Noticeboard’ tab for regular updates.
Yours sincerely
Jill Larson
