About the School
History
Auckland Normal Intermediate opened on 5 February 1945 with a roll of 400 students. Initially the school was administered by the Teachers’ Training College as the Normal School concept was established to aid teacher training.
The term ‘Normal School’ originated in France during the 16th Century when a group of schools created teacher training schools. To emphasise they were ordinary schools they were called ‘écoles normales’.While now separate entities, Auckland Normal Intermediate School still shares part of its beautiful grounds with Auckland University, Faculty of Education (formerly the Auckland College of Education).
Coat of Arms
Our coat of arms was designed in 1906 when the Teachers’ College first opened.
The coat of arms is common to other Normal Schools in Auckland and is incorporated in the Auckland City Council’s coat of arms.
The tree seen on our letterhead and the water mark below is especially representative of the growth and strength we believe we impart to our students as they progress through our school and on into adulthood.
Board of Trustees
The governance and strategic direction of the school is the mandate of the Board of Trustees.
The Board includes Parent Representatives together with a Staff Trustee and the Principal. The Board is committed to open communication with the community and will seek your input on significant issues affecting the school.
The three year Charter and Strategic Plan created by the Board can be obtained from the School Office or viewed on our website.
School Leadership Team
The day to day management of the school is undertaken by the Principal and Leadership Team.
