Badges / Shields / Medals


A system of positive “Awards” operates at Auckland Normal Intermediate.

Badges

There are four types of white badges that students work towards gaining. These are to be sewn on the left sleeve of the sweatshirt or jumper.


A.N.I. BadgeANI Badge has a white background with blue lettering and may be awarded for:

  • Gaining two certificates from the class teacher or a specialist teacher
  • Outstanding academic achievement, e.g. Distinction or High Distinction in Australasian Schools tests, placing in Science Fair or Mathex, Literature Quiz, etc.
  • School Councillors and Librarians
  • School Speech Competition place getters
  • Academic groups or other school activity group
  • Other school events

Sports BadgeSports Badge has a white background with green
lettering and may be awarded for:

  • Gaining two sports certificates
  • Being a regular, committed member of a school team playing in a weekly competition, e.g.
    Netball, Basketball, Table Tennis, Water Polo, etc.
    (awarded at the end of the season).
  • Being a member of a Central Zone team that is placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd at a Zone tournament
  • Being an individual or team member who goes forward to the Interzone Championships and places 1st, 2nd or 3rd
  • An outstanding achievement by participants in other competitions, entered as a school team or an individual school representative

Cultural BadgeCultural Badge has a white background with red lettering and may be awarded for:

  • Mau Mahara (Kapa Haka group) member, full Orchestra member or Choir member for the whole year, Production Cast member or other cultural member

Principal BadgePrincipal’s Badge has a white background with gold lettering and may be awarded for:

  • Outstanding achievement
  • Special work
  • Positive behaviour

These are to be worn on the right sleeve of the sweatshirt or jumper.
ANI Shield has blue lettering and may be awarded for:

  • Gaining two white ANI badges.

Sports Shield has green lettering and may be awarded for:

  • Gaining two white Sports badges.

Cultural Shield has red lettering and may be awarded for:

  • Gaining two white Cultural badges.

Principal’s Shield has gold lettering and may be awarded for:

  • Gaining two white Principal’s badge

Premier MedalPremier Medal

This is to be worn on the front of the shirt or tunic or jumper. To receive one of these medals a student needs to have collected one of each type of Shield.
