Community Learning Centre
Children & Adult Classes

Auckland Normal Intermediate has a large Community Education Programme, run through the Community Learning Centre. Parents are encouraged to make use of this government subsidised programme.

Classes for Children

Music classes are offered after school hours, and tuition is given in cello, trumpet, violin, flute, clarinet, oboe, saxophone, recorder, singing and music theory. Musical instruments are available to hire at very reasonable rates.

Open Days to assist parents and children to choose instruments are planned for in October each year (please phone the Community Learning Centre on 09 638 8780 for dates). Moira Richards is the Programme Co-ordinator.

Recreational Classes are offered after school hours each term. These include Art, Craft, Gymnastics, Basketball, Jazz Dance, Dreative Dance, Drama, Cooking, Computer and English as a Second Language.

A School Holiday Programme operates during each week of the school holidays, with the exception of the Christmas holidays. This programme offers a wide range of exciting activities, including organised excursions.

A detailed programme is available at the Community Learning Centre, at local primary schools or at the ANI office. Website

Adult Classes

Continuing Education and Leisure Activities are offered every term, involving daytime, evening and a growing number of weekend classes for adults. We also offer an extensive range of English classes for new immigrants.

Details of these are published in a course handbook, available from the Community Learning Centre, Public Libraries and Citizens’ Advice Bureaus.

The success of the Community Learning Centre Programme is directly related to tutor availability.

Parents with a particular skill or interest, who may wish to share their knowledge as tutors, are encouraged to telephone the Centre on 09 638 8780.
